About Caffè Tazza
Tazza is a Mediterranean-inspired cafe in a tony, upscale shopping center on Old Bullard (just west of the mall). The framed pictures of Italian cafes, heavy Italian menu, and use of Umbria ceramic dishware make their inspiration clear. The atmosphere is clean and modern: high ceilings, purple walls, yellow accents, polished wood tables/chairs, colorful ceramics and fresh-cut flowers. Nobody's going to mistake it for a worn-in Venetian sidewalk cafe.
All the food items are made fresh on-premises: soups, salads, sandwiches, muffins, cakes, plus all the standard espresso drinks. They have gelato and a good variety of Italian wines, but only a couple of beers.
On Thursday nights, they host a local artist and (usually) live music. On Saturdays and Sundays, they have a terrific 9am-2pm brunch with omelette and waffle stations. A few times a year, they offer a full menu of foods made from local ingredients, usually organic. They sometimes have wine tastings or workshops.
Tazza is clearly aiming for the high-end market; their atmosphere and location may initially be off-putting to us weirdos comfortable with graffiti and jukeboxes. But the math don't lie: they have terrific food, reasonable prices, friendly service, and a devotion to local artists and farmers. Do visit.
As of 6/30/12, Caffe Tazza now has time-limited wifi access. Sales under five dollars get thirty minutes, over five dollars get an hour.
